In addition, employees may be more inclined to return to work to avoid increasing utility bills at home, with one day in the office saving £1.12 according to previous research by Uswitch. However, workers will also have to take into account the cost of commuting, buying lunch and even socialising with colleagues after work. In this context Prof Abigail Marks points out that some employers may even be keen to have their workers at home to reduce their own utility costs. She further remarks that if  an employer can’t have employees back on site or is supportive of hybrid or homeworking, then employers should compensate for additional utility bills.
